Wahab Riaz raring to perform well against South Africa ? Cricket News Update

Wahab Riaz, the left-arm fast bowler from Pakistan, is geared up to cement his place in the national team once again and believes that the limited-overs series against South Africa provides him a great opportunity to do so.

Having made his limited-overs debut in 2008, the left-armer burst into the scene of the longer format of the sport with a five-wicket haul in the Oval Test during the controversial tour of England in 2010. The 27-year-old cricketer made a huge name for himself by picking up another five-for in the semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 against India at Mohali in a losing cause.

However, the cricketer from Lahore lost his place in the national team later on with the emergence of some other fast bowlers and his poor outing in the Asia Cup 2012 fixture against India. The lanky pacer has been doing quite well in the domestic cricket recently, earning a place in the national team once again.

Wahab has expressed that he is at the peak of his game at the moment and is raring to perform well against the Proteas. The fast bowler is of the opinion that the South African pitches are going to be conducive for his style of bowling.

?I am super fit at the moment and in the best form,? Riaz said. ?I have a lot to offer to my captain and coach. I am desperate to bowl on the surfaces in South Africa. I can bowl fast, and conditions are well suited for me to bowl reverse swing as well.?

Riaz, who came through the ranks of junior cricket in the country in the early-2000s, is now considered to be among the fastest bowlers in Pakistan. He bowled with a lot of fire and pace during the recently concluded limited-overs series against Afghanistan, representing Pakistan ?A?.

Wahab revealed that he has been playing hockey in recent times to get himself fit for the tour of South Africa.

?I have managed myself very well. I have been playing hockey for the last one-and-a-half months to build up my thighs for the South African grounds, which are a bit harder,? he added.
